Description

This is a brand new sake cup titled "Philosophy: Love and Wisdom," fresh from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is an exceptional work, rich in the originality characteristic of Ichikawa, who gives shape to his incessantly overflowing ideas through the supreme medium of clay. This new piece, titled "Philosophy," features a mysterious aesthetic created by combining a bluish celadon-like glaze over a metallic platinum luster. The mystical color, appearing as a blend of milky white and blue, pairs beautifully with the heavily faceted form, with the glaze shifting in intensity across the contours of the piece to create a truly enchanting effect. The work also incorporates Ichikawa's trademark red glaze; the sight of it dripping and blending with the pale blue glaze evokes the philosophical expression suggested by the title. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.6cm x 7.4cm x Height 6.0cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
