Description
This is a brand-new black small bowl, freshly fired from the kiln by Masao Akiya, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works overflowing with unique originality within a fresh spirit. It is crafted using the Kuro-Bizen (black Bizen) technique inherited from his mentor, Jun Isezaki, and features a wonderful black color that is deep and lustrous, yet warm in tone. The bowl is made using black clay from Osafune Iso-ue, famous for sword making, which is melted into the surface to create a beautiful black texture. Inside, vigorous "goma" (ash glaze) splatters, combining with the black to create a scene like a starry night sky. The area around the foot is thinly cut, and the spatula marks emerge when light hits it.
