Description

This is a newly kiln-fired Shigaraki sake cup (guinomi) by Tomio Ochi, an artist who has been diligently honing his craft firing kilns under the tutelage of Anjin Abe, pouring his ever-unsatisfied creative passion into his pottery. This piece represents a new challenge for Ochi; it is crafted using clay he once collected in Shigaraki with Abe, and, like his Bizen works, it has been fired multiple times. Aiming for a more intense finish this time, the piece underwent seven kiln firings, ensuring the clay was fired thoroughly to its core, resulting in a shimmering orange surface that extends not only to the exterior but also well into the interior of the cup. A creamy natural ash glaze is splattered across the front and the interior, and its unique greenish hue contrasts beautifully against the orange base.
