Description
This is a new tea cup by Masao Akiya, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality within a fresh spirit. This *kumidashi* bowl features a spectacular appearance created by the traditional *anagama* (tunnel kiln) firing method of the Isezaki school, and while the form is simple, the beauty of the surface is its greatest highlight. The interior features a landscape where a storm of *goma* (ash glaze) rages; the abundant, intense *goma* evokes scenes of crimson flames and swirling embers within the kiln. On the exterior, a vivid scarlet is combined with *shironuke* (white spots), appearing as if the traces of the fire have emerged as shadows within the white gaps. This is a somewhat deep, large *kumidashi* bowl that can be used in various ways depending on your ideas, such as a small bowl or a rice bowl.
