Description
This Bizen tea bowl is by Kazuki Nakamura, a creator of profound and tasteful works who carries on the lineage of the master sake ware potters, Rokuro Nakamura and Makoto Nakamura. While inheriting the style of these masters of sake ware, this tea bowl, crafted in the shape of a flat sake cup (hirahai), reflects Kazuki's unique sensibilities, distinguishing his style from that of his father and grandfather. With a low, solid form, he utilizes a deftness of hand reminiscent of his grandfather Rokuro to create powerful undulations along the rim and foot; despite his youth, the work possesses the serene atmosphere and unique allure of a seasoned artisan. It is an interesting experiment in which he has enlarged his popular flat sake cup design for use as a tea bowl. The tactile experience is identical to that of the sake cup, with the shape allowing the tea's aroma to expand leisurely, while the uniquely undulating rim gently contours to the lips.
