Description
He creates works using standard Bizen clay, applying black clay after the pieces have dried.
"Kuro" is made from clay with a high iron content sourced from the Osafune district of Okayama Prefecture.
A small amount of cobalt is added after dissolving it in water to create a liquid slip.
This Guinomi is removed from the kiln while still being fired, resulting in a vivid color.
Among Kuro-style pieces, those removed directly from the firing kiln are known as "Hikidashiguro."
He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1936.
He graduated from Okayama University in 1959.
He was designated as a Living National Treasure in 2004.
