Description

Michiaki Kaneshige is the eldest son of Toyo Kaneshige.
He creates traditional Bizen ware and innovative sculptures while following the teachings of his father, Toyo Kaneshige.
This chawan is a work from the middle of his career.
This chawan was fired near the "barber" spot in the kiln.
This position is extremely hot, causing significant amounts of natural glaze to adhere to the works.
Members of the Kaneshige clan often fire their chawan in this spot.
This is because the large amount of natural glaze creates a glossy and smooth texture on the pieces.

He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture in 1934 as the eldest son of Toyo Kaneshige.
He became his father's apprentice in 1955 after graduating from college.
He passed away in 1995.
