Description
Tomio Ochi is a relative of Anjin Abe.
He was an office worker but loved art.
After retiring from his company, he studied pottery as a student of Anjin Abe.
He learned the fire control methods of ancient Bizen from Anjin Abe.
The clay used for this tea bowl (chawan) is clay from the Shigaraki region collected with Anjin Abe.
He fired this tea bowl seven times.
He shaved the entire piece using a wooden spatula.
By doing so, the design became sharp, and a space was created on the inside.
He devised this space to widen the lower part of the interior, allowing the flavor of the tea to be enhanced.
He was born in Ehime Prefecture, Japan, in 1949.
He became a disciple of Anjin Abe in 1976.
He built a kiln in Ushimado, Okayama Prefecture, Japan, in 1998.
