Description
Shuroku Harada studied Old Bizen ware.
He was a student of ceramics researcher Matasaburo Katsura.
The knowledge he gained serves as the foundation for his pottery style.
He has not fired his kiln in recent years.
Judging by the condition of the wooden box and the enclosed biography, I presume it was made around 1980.
The upper part is a relatively standard sake cup, but the base is very voluminous.
While this piece has the style of a *bajohai* (equestrian sake cup), it feels more like an ancient ritual object to me.
He was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1941.
He became a potter in 1969.
He became a disciple of Matasaburo Katsura in 1975 and studied Old Bizen.
