Description

Takashi Soga researches ancient Bizen ware and uses it as inspiration for his creative work.
He does not use any kiln tools made with modern chemical materials.
He strives to recreate the environment in which ancient Bizen ware was produced within his own studio.
His work, created in this unique environment, bears a striking resemblance to ancient Bizen ware.
The flame patterns on this tokkuri (sake bottle) are similar to the yohen (kiln transmutation) effects seen in climbing kilns.
At the same time, however, it also possesses the unique characteristics of his own kiln.
The exposed clay areas unaffected by ash have a subdued, complex color, just like ancient Bizen.

He was born in Tokyo in 1984.
He became a disciple of Jun Isezaki in 2009.
He built a kiln in Bizen City in 2012 and debuted as a ceramist the following year.
