Description

Masao Akiya is a disciple of Jun Isezaki.
He uses the same black clay as Jun Isezaki.
He creates works using standard Bizen clay and applies black clay after the pieces have dried.
"Kuro" (black) is made from clay with a high iron content sourced from the Osafune district of Okayama Prefecture.
A small amount of cobalt is added after dissolving the ingredients in water to create a liquid slip.
This work is removed from the kiln during firing, which results in its vivid color.

He was born in Saitama Prefecture in 1968.
He became a disciple of Jun Isezaki in 1998.
He built his own kiln in 2008 and became an independent ceramic artist.
