Description
Masao Akiya is a disciple of Jun Isezaki.
He uses the same black clay as Jun Isezaki.
He creates his works using standard Bizen clay and applies the black clay after they have dried.
"Kuro" (black) clay is made from clay with a high iron content found in the Osafune district of Okayama Prefecture.
A small amount of cobalt is added after dissolving the clay in water to create a liquid slip.
The black clay applied to the work turns a beautiful black color when fired.
The interior is fired with Hidasuki without any black clay applied.
This allows you to enjoy the bubbling effects and color variations.
He was born in Saitama Prefecture in 1968.
He became a disciple of Jun Isezaki in 1998.
He built his own kiln in 2008 and became an independent ceramic artist.
