Description

Yu Fujiwara's designs are characterized by their thickness and weight.
However, this work is from his early to mid period, and those characteristics are almost absent.
This Guinomi is a work from his later years.
He was highly skilled at creating fire patterns using refractory clay known as Botamochi.
He placed a semi-circular Botamochi on the rim of the Guinomi to vary the pattern and improve usability.
It also appears that he incorporated Botamochi on the back and inside of the Guinomi to delight those who used it.

He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture in 1932 as the eldest son of Kei Fujiwara.
He was designated a Living National Treasure in 1996.
(This was the first time in the ceramics industry that both a parent and child received this accreditation.)
He passed away in 2001.
