Description

Jun Isazaki is a Living National Treasure of Bizen ware. (The fifth person in Bizen ware)
He fires his work in a straight, tunnel-shaped kiln called an "Anagama."
The flames of the Anagama kiln blow into the back of the kiln all at once.
The fired pieces feature brown or white gradations layered over a bright red base.
He wraps his work in rice straw before firing.
The color and shape of the rice straw marks vary from piece to piece due to the effects of the natural ash glaze.
This new work was fired in May 2021.

He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1936.
He graduated from Okayama University in 1959.
He was designated a Living National Treasure in 2004.
