Description
Takashi Soga researches old Bizen ware and uses it as inspiration for his creative work.
He does not use any kiln tools made with modern chemical materials.
He seeks to recreate the environment in which old Bizen ware was produced within his own studio.
His work, created in this unique environment, bears a striking resemblance to old Bizen ware.
The fire pattern on this Tokkuri (sake flask) is similar to the Yohen (kiln transmutation) effects seen in Noborigama climbing kilns.
At the same time, however, it also exhibits the unique characteristics of his own kiln.
The areas of bare clay that were not covered in ash have a muted, complex color, just like antique Bizen pieces.
He was born in Tokyo in 1984.
He became a disciple of Jun Isezaki in 2009.
He built a kiln in Bizen City in 2012 and began his career as a ceramist the following year.
