Description
This Guinomi is part of the "Yakusugi Itame" (Yakusugi Cedar Grain) series that he began in 2005, in which he transfers patterns of Yakusugi cedar onto his works.
Seihou's brother-in-law, Kazan Mazda IV, passed away in 2003, and Seihou inherited his Yakusugi boards.
He used a Yakusugi cedar plank to roll the clay into a flat slab, transferring the grain of the wood onto the clay.
He then rounded the clay slab into a cylindrical shape to complete the work.
This technique is called "tatara" in Bizen.
He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture in 1921.
He became a potter in 1949.
He passed away in 2017.
