Description

This sake flask is the final piece of his career.
Toshu Yamamoto was known as the master of the potter's wheel.
He favored symmetrical, neat modeling.
His sake flask bodies were always near-perfect circles.
However, this flask is distorted by a few millimeters because it was placed in an area of intense heat.
I feel that this slight distortion is a trace of the battle between the master of the wheel and the flame.
This flask was embraced by a fierce fire, acquiring a Goma glaze that appears as a mixture of green and gold, dark black, and a beautiful reddish purple.

He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture in 1906.
He was designated a Living National Treasure in 1987.
He passed away in 1994.
