Description

Jun Isazaki is a Living National Treasure of Bizen ware. (The fifth person to be designated for Bizen ware)
He fires his pieces using an "Anagama," a straight, tunnel-shaped kiln.
The flames from the Anagama kiln rush into the back of the kiln in a single burst.
The fired pieces exhibit a gradation of brown or white against a bright red base.
He wraps his works in rice straw before firing them.
The color and pattern of the rice straw vary from section to section due to the effects of the natural glaze.
This new work was fired in June 2023.

He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture in 1936.
He graduated from Okayama University in 1959.
He was designated as a Living National Treasure in 2004.
