Description

I think this Guinomi was made around 1965, judging by the shape of the Toyo mark.
It is a relatively large design from his final years.
This Guinomi is made from fine clay with a low iron content.
The base is a white clay color that has shifted to amber or scarlet due to the effects of the fire.
The large, powerful design is full of confidence.
It will develop a very nice color as it is used.

He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture in 1896.
From a young age, he became famous for his wonderful ornamental work (saiku-mono).
However, he believed that the true beauty of Bizen ware lay in the Momoyama style.
He improved the kiln and the clay, greatly advancing Bizen pottery.
He was designated a Living National Treasure in 1956.
He passed away in 1967.
