Description
Koichiro Isezaki is Jun Isezaki's eldest son.
He uses a tunnel-shaped kiln called an "anagama."
This new work was fired in November 2023.
He creates pieces using white Bizen clay, then paints them with black clay after they have dried.
"Kuro" (black) is made from clay with a high iron content found in the Osafune district of Okayama Prefecture.
He adds a small amount of cobalt after dissolving the clay in water to create a liquid slip.
The black clay applied to the piece turns a beautiful black color when fired.
He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1974 as the eldest son of Jun Isezaki.
He graduated from Tokyo Zokei University in 1996.
He studied ceramics in New York and began his career in 2000.
