Description

Tosyu Yamamoto was known as the master of the potter's wheel.
He favored symmetrical, refined forms.
This is a late work from his career.
Sun is a unique unit of length that has been used in Japan for a long time.
One sun is about 3 cm, and 8 sun (hassun) means that the dish is about 25 cm in diameter.
At the boundary between the area where Goma (ash glaze) is applied and the area where it is not, Kinsai occurs, where the clay shines like metal.

He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture in 1906.
He was designated as a Living National Treasure in 1987.
He passed away in 1994.
