Description

This is a yunomi (tea cup) created by Rokuro Nakamura, known as a master of sake vessels.
Based on the signature and style, this piece is believed to date from the mid-to-late period of Rokuro Nakamura's career, around the age of 70.
Rather than the vivid red tones often associated with the Nakamura family, the clay here exhibits a deep, reddish-brown character reminiscent of the influence of Toyo Kaneshige.
The bold, flared form is a classic shape for Nakamura-family yunomi.
Despite its generous size, it fits comfortably in the hand, reflecting Rokuro-sensei’s careful attention to balance and function.
The softly undulating rim—a signature feature of Rokuro Nakamura—is shaped into a gentle triangle with three subtle high points,
faithfully preserving the elegant design that has long captivated sake lovers, now reimagined in this yunomi.

He was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture in 1914.
He began his pottery career under the tutelage of Toyo Kaneshige around 1945.
He passed away in 2004.
