Description
He was born into a family with a long tradition of Bizen ware.
Under normal circumstances, he would have played a central role in the Bizen pottery industry.
However, at the root of his work was his anger toward society at large.
He was skilled at pouring destructive emotions into his creations, sometimes resulting in grotesque works.
He named his kiln "Shakuyo" and was particularly fastidious about the emergence of red clay colors.
The kanji for "Shakuyo" translates to "the sun that burns everything."
He was born in 1944 in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture.
He learned pottery from his father and brother, and became an independent potter in 1975.
He passed away in 2011.
