Description

This is a newly fired Bizen rock cup by Jun Isezaki, a Living National Treasure and a leading figure in the world of Bizen ware whose creativity continues to flow without ever fading.

It is one of his latest works, freshly fired in February 2026.

The piece was fired for about ten days in a semi-underground anagama kiln and displays a firing that can truly be described as representative of Isezaki Bizen, with rich expressions of goma, hidasuki, ito-goma, and gradations of white clay tones and vivid hiro.

It was made using a rather coarse, sandy clay, and the interior, where the flames did not strike directly, has developed a fresh and beautiful orange tone.

During firing, rice straw was wrapped diagonally around the piece in a kesa-gake style, and the hidasuki pattern circling the entire cup gives it a particularly enjoyable and lively appearance.

In addition, during firing, the straw fused with the natural ash glaze carried by the flames, creating subtle variations in color and texture from one area to another.
