Description

This is a Bizen Yunomi by Rokuro Nakamura, a highly acclaimed traditional craftsman of Bizen who was praised as a master of sake vessel making.

Judging from its style and the inscription on the wooden box, this piece is believed to date from the later years of Rokuro Nakamura’s career.

The entire piece is covered in a sunset-like coloration that is instantly recognizable as characteristic of the Nakamura family, making this a wonderful Yunomi to appreciate visually, enjoy in use, and savor as it develops over time.

When it comes to Yunomi by the Nakamura family, this solid and gently flaring form is one of their signature features. Despite its substantial appearance, it feels remarkably comfortable in the hand, and even within its seemingly simple form, one can sense the refined aesthetic that Rokuro Nakamura pursued so carefully.

Another trademark of Rokuro Nakamura is the softly undulating rim. Viewed from above, the mouth forms a gentle triangular shape with three subtle points, and this distinctive design, which has captivated so many sake lovers, is beautifully expressed in this Yunomi as well.

Because of its generous size and wide diameter, it can be enjoyed not only as a Yunomi, but also as a vessel for shochu.

Although this is an older work, there are no signs of use or noticeable stains.
