Description

This is a Hiyama Bizen Beer Mug by Hiroshi Goseki, who trained under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki before establishing his own kiln in Ibaraki Prefecture.

This beer mug was crafted using a blend of Bizen and Hiyama clays and fired in an anagama kiln built in Hiyama, Hitachiomiya City.

Perhaps owing to the influence of the Hiyama clay, the piece possesses a distinctly rugged texture to the touch, and its surface, characterized by deep caramel-brown tones, offers a charm distinct from traditional Bizen ware.

The basic form of this piece was created using slab-building techniques, then meticulously refined by hand, resulting in an exceptional shape that evokes the quietude and subtle nuances of a Raku tea bowl.

The exterior features a deeply expressive Sangiri surface with a unique luster and stone-like texture, while the interior displays a dry, crisp finish marked by the natural undulations of the slab-building process, creating a powerful and substantial fire pattern.

A wooden box is not included, but we can arrange for one separately; please feel free to contact us for details.
