Description
This is a Bizen mug by Yoshiteru Takariki, who studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige, yet continues to pursue his own work in a natural and unpretentious manner.
This mug was fired near the front of the kiln, where it received an abundance of Goma (ash glaze). Bold Tobi-Goma (splashed ash) appears inside the piece and on the handle, creating a highly impressive firing pattern.
In addition, the piece was fired while absorbing a generous amount of smoke, giving the entire surface a lustrous quality. Together with the tone of the clay, it creates a firing pattern reminiscent of melted chocolate.
This luster gives the surface an almost coated appearance, resulting in a smooth, pleasant texture that makes the piece very comfortable to use.
Although the design itself is slightly larger in size, both the handle and the body have been crafted thinly, giving the mug a well-balanced lightness.
Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1970.
Became a disciple of Sozan Kaneshige in 1989.
After the death of Sozan Kaneshige, he became a disciple of Yuho Kaneshige.
Became independent as a ceramic artist in 1996.
