Description
Toru Ichikawa studied under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and made a striking debut of his own. This is a slightly earlier work by the artist, titled *Kiridate VANISHING POINT*.
Characteristic of Ichikawa, who gives form to an endless stream of ideas through the extraordinary medium of clay, this is an unconventional and highly original work filled with his distinctive imagination.
The piece is titled *VANISHING POINT*, evoking a world in which Ichikawa’s imagination seems to converge and disappear into the distance.
Known for his extraordinary ability to manipulate glaze textures and create an almost limitless variety of surfaces, Ichikawa has applied three different glazes, each with its own color and texture, across the work in a dynamic and unrestricted manner.
The pink surface is finished with an iridescent glaze reminiscent of luster decoration, while the platinum decoration moves freely across the surface like action painting. On the remaining plane—the interior—Ichikawa creates a quiet and serene world in ice white.
The work was created as a *Kiridate* together with a matching saucer, allowing it to be used freely either as tableware or as a drinking vessel. It is a particularly luxurious piece that invites a wide range of uses.
Although this is an earlier work, it has never been used.
He was born in Tokyo in 1973.
He became a disciple of Ryuichi Kakurezaki in 2011.
He became independent as a ceramic artist in 2015.
