初代藤原楽山 作 菊花香炉

Chrysanthemum Incense Burner by the First Fujiwara Rakuzan

We have just received a chrysanthemum incense burner by the first generation Rakuzan Fujiwara.
The intricacy of this craftsmanship, the symmetric silhouette, the mysterious expression of the salt kiln.
Hmm, I would say this level of perfection is beyond human, or perhaps even abnormal.
There is an expression "ill skill" used in English lyrics, and that is exactly what this is.
While "ill" is originally a negative term often related to sickness,
when used as "ill skill," it refers to an abnormally high level of ability or superhuman technique.
However, personally, I find it interesting to include a slightly darker connotation when applying "ill skill" to this particular chrysanthemum incense burner by Rakuzan Fujiwara.
At the time, Rakuzan was a potter who devoted himself entirely to his craft within a world of Bizen ware that was in significant decline.
This must be a piece that he completed by immersing himself so deeply that he transcended the real world and escaped into his work.
