Bizen Guinomi by Juroku Harada

Today, I would like to introduce a new style of guinomi (sake cup) by Juroku-sensei, which incorporates Taiko stone. Up until now, Taiko stone has been used as an accent or a spice in his work, but this time, it takes center stage, creating a dynamic landscape. The presence of these guinomi is reminiscent of a rock garden or a piece of spatial art utilizing stones. Taiko stone is a type of granite that was traditionally used for stone lanterns, and it is truly characteristic of Juroku-sensei to incorporate it into his pieces like jewelry before firing them. Fired slowly at a high temperature, the Taiko stone glows as if it were a pearl. By the way, I imagine some Bizen ware fans might be concerned about "ishihaze" (stone bursts). In fact, it is probably the retailers, like us (or perhaps just me), who are particularly sensitive to it. I often hear comments like, "It has a large stone burst, so I'm not sure..." However, encountering these pieces has made me realize that things are a little different. Right now, I believe that stone bursts are a scenic feature and are truly beautiful. Much like young grass sprouting by breaking through hard asphalt, they are overflowing with a lively, energetic, and vibrant dynamism. Stone bursts are actually quite fascinating. size: Body diameter 7.7cm x 7.4cm x Height 6.5cm For detailed photographs of the works or for inquiries, please contact us at the following: Tel 0869-67-2210 Fax 0869-67-2220 E-mail : info@tourakuen.jp
