Hello everyone. The days are getting shorter and it has become much cooler, a sure sign that autumn is on its way.
As the weather cools down, there will be many events such as artists' kiln openings and the Bizen Pottery Festival.
It’s the season when Bizen artists, fans, and shops all get busy.
It's a great chance to encounter the pieces you've been searching for, so please check our website frequently.
Now, to kick off this rush of kiln openings, we are featuring the work of Shin Isezaki.
These are pieces we just received, so fresh that they almost feel as if the heat from the kiln hasn't faded yet.
Fired slowly in an anagama (climbing kiln), these pieces exhibit a stunning white clay body and vivid red hidaski (fire cords).
Achieving this kind of hidaski in a standard climbing kiln is extremely difficult, and usually results in a distinctively dark, earthy tone.
However, these pieces by Isezaki-sensei truly have a magnificent, moxa-colored clay body.
They also display the subtle scorch marks and sheen of the clay that can only be achieved in an anagama kiln.
The hidaski patterns that run wild across the surface are also incredibly beautiful, possessing a richness that feels almost viscous.
The fusion of these two landscapes creates a refined color palette, one that would look lovely with beautiful autumn wildflowers.
