Hello everyone, how are you all doing?
Today I would like to introduce some new works by Yoshinobu Morimoto that have just been taken out of the kiln.
This time, it felt as though he was particularly focused on expressing a softness and warmth in color, as seen in the subtle expression of the clay texture and the contrast between the sesame glaze (goma) and the ash-covered areas.
All of these pieces were previously exhibited at the Rian Bunko Art Museum in Okayama City, and with slight changes to his potter's mark and the texture of the clay, they all seem to hint at the beginning of a new stage in his work.

These have a charming design inspired by the "soroban-tsubo" (abacus-bead jars) found in antique ceramics.

The one on the left holds one "go" (approx. 180ml) when full, and the one on the right holds a little over one "go."
Inside the one on the right

It is well-coated in "goma" (sesame glaze), giving it a beautiful appearance.

A magnificent scarlet hue, like flushed cheeks.
Inside the one on the left

It has a refined clay texture that matches its slightly more intense firing.

While dominated by an intense ash covering, it creates depth through areas of "nuke" (uncovered spots) and sesame glaze.
A single drop may hang when pouring, so it might be interesting to rub that drop into the surface over time.
What did you think of Mr. Morimoto's new Bizen "Chutsubo" (pouring jars)?
They are named "Chutsubo" in the sense that they are neither quite a sake server nor a regular jar.
They work well as a sake vessel or a flower vase, and I think each person will find their own unique way to enjoy them.
