Hello everyone, how are you doing?
Today I would like to introduce the new work of Tomoyuki Oiwa, who studied ceramics for about 9 years at the studio of Ryuichi Kakurezaki and became independent at the end of last year after firing his own glaze kiln.
Ever since his debut, he has shown us highly high-quality glazed works, and he is currently in the process of preparing for full-scale Bizen firing as well.
This work combines the soft glaze texture of a snow-like white glaze and a black glaze that looks like black crystal, with the sharpness of faceted edges created by spatula carving, resulting in a piece that is both sharp and light.
It is a stylish work that catches your eye at first glance, and you can feel the great sense of style that Oiwa-sensei possesses.
We have also received wonderful new works from his mentor, Ryuichi Kakurezaki, which I will introduce on the blog at a later date.

The edges of the clay stand out amidst the softness of the glaze.

The soft, fresh snow-like white glaze on the black clay is lovely.

The monotone look of white glaze and black clay is very stylish.

A work combining white glaze with Hidasuki (fire-cord) clay.

The soft orange color of the Hidasuki highlights the piece beautifully.

In areas where the black glaze is thick, it has turned into a dark green kiln-change color.

The matte black clay is very stylish.
