In a reversal of the previous installment, this time Yuichi-sensei has created the sake bottle (tokkuri), and Toshu-sensei has created the sake cup (shuzomi).
Although these two pieces were crafted in completely different eras, their colors are so strikingly similar that it is as if they were placed side-by-side in the same kiln.
The areas where the glaze has cleared to reveal a silvery sheen due to strong reduction, and the slightly orange-tinted quality of the clay, make them truly look like identical twins. The slightly greenish *goma* (ash glaze) is also the same, suggesting that the Yamamoto family kiln firing process might be quite intense.
Furthermore, looking at the dimensions below, both works yield some rather interesting results.
In both pieces, the maximum and minimum diameters are the same, which indicates a nearly perfectly round, swelling form.
This high level of wheel-throwing technique is surely one of the hallmarks of the Yamamoto family.
