New Year Special Exhibition: Bizen Connections Vol. 3 - Rokuro and Shin Nakamura: A Father and Son's Sake Table

Hello everyone. For our third installment today, I would like to introduce the works of Rokuro Nakamura and Makoto Nakamura.
The pieces this time are from a private collection, and we only just received them recently.
In fact, it was seeing these pieces that gave me the inspiration for our current concept of "En" (bonds/connections).

rokuromakoto20120118blog1.JPGThe sake bottle (tokkuri) is by Makoto-sensei, and the sake cup (sakazuki) is by Rokuro-sensei.
While the sake bottle shows almost no signs of use, the sake cup has been heavily used; the surface has become smooth, and the color and texture of the sangiri (kiln-changed) finish have changed significantly.
I suppose that when it comes to a sake cup by Rokuro-sensei, you never tire of using it every day.

The "nuke" (bright orange/red firing mark) on Makoto-sensei's sake bottle is truly vivid red, and I was able to fully appreciate its magnificent hue when I tested it with water.
It made me wonder: the surface is red, but what about the inside? When I thought that, I noticed a small chip on the back, and I was convinced—the clay is red to the very core.
This father-and-son sake set from the illustrious Nakamura family of sake vessel masters is truly vibrant; it is a delight both to use and to behold.
