New Year Special Exhibition: Bizen Connections Exhibition Part 4 – Sozan Kaneshige and Yoshiteru Koriki Tea Ceremony

Hello everyone. Today I am here with our fourth installment.
I have decided to change things up a bit from the usual by focusing on a tea setting, using sake cups as sencha tea bowls.
Mr. Kōriki's sake cups come in both short and tall varieties, and it occurred to me that this taller type is the perfect size for a sencha bowl.

Ideally, I would have prepared wooden tea coasters, but I didn't have time to arrange them for this occasion.
Since I think the taller sake cups are perfect as sencha bowls, I encourage you to try using them in this way if you like.
Even if you don't drink sake and feel a sake cup isn't for you, I think they also make wonderful additions to a collection of sencha bowls.

This "Hidasuki" (fire-cord) sake cup features a truly magnificent clay body—the very definition of "mogusa" (mugwort) color.
The soft, slightly yellowish white is so beautiful that I often mistake it for something edible.
The rich coloring of the fire-cord patterns and the luster of the clay give it a clean, crisp atmosphere, creating a visual aesthetic that pairs perfectly with the green of tea.
A further advantage is that the thick walls of the vessel help keep the tea warm.
