Hello everyone. Today, I would like to introduce a yunomi (tea cup) by Yuichi Yamamoto. Yuichi Yamamoto is the eldest son of Toshu Yamamoto, a master artisan who is designated as a Prefectural Intangible Cultural Property. Like his father, Yuichi is known for his delicate and supple wheel-throwing technique. He has many fans both in Japan and abroad and is highly active globally as the leader of the Yamamoto family. So, why am I introducing such a master's work with a small tea cup? Some time ago, I read an interview with Toshu Yamamoto, and it left a lasting impression on me. In it, he mentioned that when he first started working at a workshop, he spent all his time just throwing tea cups. Thinking about that, it made me wonder if even Toshu Yamamoto—now called a Living National Treasure and a master of the potter's wheel—might have struggled with the wheel in the beginning. When I saw this tea cup by Yuichi, that story suddenly came to mind. It is shockingly thin, yet the beauty of its craftsmanship lies in the fact that it feels completely sturdy. That thinness also makes it comfortable to use, and I am sure it offers a wonderful mouthfeel. Perhaps the true mastery of the potter's wheel is better conveyed through objects we touch and use daily. For that reason, I felt this was a magnificent tea cup and decided to feature it in today's article. size: Diameter 7.9cm x 7.9cm x Height 8.3cm price: SOLD OUT For inquiries regarding this work, please contact us at the details below.
