Today, I would like to introduce a hobin (teapot) by the master craftsman Furo Ishii, a name known to those in the know. Along with Toyo and Shunko, Furo was one of the great masters of Imbe ware, and among Bizen ware enthusiasts, he is particularly famous for his hobin featuring the Heart Sutra carved into the side. While this particular piece does not have the Heart Sutra carving, I wanted to showcase it because its vivid clay texture—a hallmark of Furo's work—is truly wonderful. This complex blend of orange, pink, and burgundy hues in the clay is something that is truly worth seeing in person. Furthermore, it is handmade using the hand-coiling technique, making it light and airy, much like paper craft. Because it is coiled while semi-dry, the surface acquires a unique texture, resulting in a mysterious design that resembles stone grain. During the photography process, my camera often struggled to focus due to this unique surface and the complex colors. It felt quite magical, as if I were trying to capture light or prisms slipping through my hands and the lens. size: Width 10.0cm x 9.5cm x Height 8.3cm price: 130,000 JPY (includes tomobako storage box) For inquiries regarding this piece, please contact us at the following: Tel 0869-67-2210 Fax 0869-67-2220 E-mail : info@tourakuen.jp
