[手のひらの中の小宇宙 宝瓶・香炉展]藤原建 作 備前泡瓶

{"[手のひらの中の小宇宙 宝瓶・香炉展]藤原建 作 備前泡瓶": "[A Microcosm in the Palm of Your Hand: Hobin Teapot and Incense Burner Exhibition] Bizen Hobin Teapot by Ken Fujiwara"}

 Today’s featured piece is an *awabun* (side-handled teapot) by Ken Fujiwara, the nephew of Kei Fujiwara, who we introduced yesterday.
Ken Fujiwara was designated as a holder of an Intangible Cultural Property by the prefecture, and he was known for creating works that balance a rich, tasteful clay texture with an elegant style.
This piece captures those characteristics perfectly; its viscous, gentle clay texture is truly reminiscent of Momoyama-period Old Bizen ware.

 "To remain soft even when fired hard."

 Looking at this piece, it is as if I can hear Ken’s voice whispering just that.
The form represents the quintessential Bizen *hohin* (teapot without a handle), serving as a textbook example of the craft.
The body rises sharply, the spout is understated, and the lid knob exudes a sense of allure.
It is truly a gem of a masterpiece by the master craftsman Ken Fujiwara.
