[A Microcosm in the Palm: Exhibition of Treasures and Incense Burners] Kei Fujiwara, Bizen "Awabin" (Bubble Teapot)
This is a hōhin (tea pot) by Kei Fujiwara, a Living National Treasure and world-renowned second-generation Bizen ware artist.
Kei Fujiwara is known for his poetic and gentle style, which seems to reflect his warm personality.
This piece is no exception; while it has a dignified form, it possesses a gentleness that does not overwhelm the hand that holds it.
It is an exceptionally well-fired work, combining profound kiln-altered glazes (yōhen) with the deep, rich character of the clay.
The contrast between the sesame-seed ash glaze (goma) covering the body and lid, and the gold and silver hues of the kiln-fired coloring (sangiri), possesses the beauty characteristic of Bizen's finest kiln-altered works.
