Yoshiteru Takariki's Kiln Opening Part 2 ~Autumn 2015~

Hello everyone, how are you doing?

Continuing from last time, I would like to introduce some brand-new works just taken out of the kiln by Yoshiteru Koriki.

Although Mr. Koriki is now approaching his twentieth anniversary as a potter,

the surge in his popularity in recent years is like that of a promising young artist who has just debuted.

The reason for this popularity surely lies in his spirit of "challenge" and "consistency."

He takes on some new challenge with every kiln firing, and I am always excited to see what will emerge.

Whatever emerges, the quality remains consistently high,

and I believe Mr. Koriki has been faithfully continuing the work of "steadily creating good things"—a phrase that sounds simple enough, but is incredibly difficult to put into practice.

These new sake cups embody that dual Koriki style of "challenge" and "consistency."

Until now, Mr. Koriki's sake cups have mostly featured forms like kutsu-chawan (shoe-shaped tea bowls) or umadarai-chawan (horse-trough tea bowls),

but this time he has challenged himself with this wide-open, flared design for the first time.

While this is a new design for him, the quality of the clay texture is impeccable,

and the center of the interior features a bright red nuke (unfired/uncovered patch) reminiscent of a sunrise.

The intense scarlet color produced by the blend of mountain soil suits the rustic shape of these cups perfectly.

When in use, you can enjoy the deep, intense scarlet characteristic of mountain soil.

The craftsmanship projects a sense of tension that makes one want to sit up straight while drinking.

The red clay tones shift gradually; even with the strong red color, it remains understated rather than flashy.
