Description
This is an Irabo tea bowl by the renowned master artisan Tokei Mimura, often hailed as a legendary potter. Crafted from a slightly coarse clay mixed with sand, the piece features an understated, mustard-like glaze that exudes a refined, austere quality. The "bebera" (flared) rim has been turned thin with exquisite throwing technique, creating a silhouette that captures the delicate, wabi-sabi atmosphere characteristic of Goryeo tea bowls. Inside, the glaze run has formed a stunning striped pattern, which will beautifully complement the soft green color of tea.
Signed wooden box (double-slat lid)
Diameter 13.6cm x Diameter 13.6cm x Height 8.4cm Tokei Mimura (1885–1956) founded a pottery school in Imbe in 1913, where he dedicated himself to training potters. In addition to figurines such as Hotei and shishi lions, he left behind exceptional works of tea ware produced on the potter's wheel. Furthermore, he devised new firing techniques to artificially create *sangiri* (kiln-altered) and *hidasuki* (fire-cord) patterns.
