Description

This is a new Bizen sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with a superior aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his handling of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. The composition of this piece depicts a struggle between the raw essence of the earth and the "goma" (ash glaze), which is the embodiment of fierce flame. The crisp, hardened "sangiri" (fire-affected coloring) is exceptionally dramatic, serving as a testament to this piece being fired with double the usual amount of firewood. The flavor of the clay, reminiscent of a deep coffee brown, is also truly magnificent. Signed wooden box (shiho-zan) included
Diameter 9.6cm × Diameter 7.4cm × Height 6.0cm Yoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976. He completed his studies at the Bizen Pottery Center in 1996.
