Description

This is a new Bizen tokkuri (sake bottle) by Ms. Megumi Sueda, who studied under Anjin Abe and captivates fans with her unique style as a female ceramic artist. The piece features her signature bright brown clay body, adorned with a vibrant, profuse scattering of yellow sesame (goma) ash glaze. Upon close inspection, each individual speck of ash is remarkably fine, layering together to create a dynamic, deep texture as if the ash had rained down and accumulated. The sangiri (smothered firing) at the waist creates a beautiful gradient of white and gray, which, combined with the sesame glaze, allows one to truly feel the intensity of the kiln firing. The constriction at the front is designed to comfortably accommodate the fingers, while the well-formed mouth and neck ensure a perfect pour. It is a work that truly reflects the delicate, thoughtful touch characteristic of a female artist. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Mouth diameter 3.7cm × Body diameter 9.3cm × Body diameter 9.2cm × Height 13.6cm Capacity approx. 400ml Megumi Sueda graduated from the Faculty of Law and Literature at Shimane University in 1990 and completed the program at the Okuizumo Ceramic Research Institute, affiliated with the Shimane Design College, in 2001. She began her apprenticeship under ceramic artist Anjin Abe in 2001. In 2002, she built her own underground anagama kiln, "Hanae-gama," in Yokota-cho, Nita-gun, Shimane Prefecture. She has held group exhibitions in Tokyo in 2002, and in Sapporo and Niigata in 2003, among others.
