Description
This is a Bizen sake cup by Masashiro Aiga, an artist known for creating works that are consistently straightforward and possess integrity. The texture, well-fired and smooth, evokes the image of chocolate—a signature characteristic of Aiga, who is deeply committed to the style of Old Bizen. The piece features rich yellow "goma" (sesame glaze) and blue "sangiri" (kiln-effect coloring), which are perfectly suited to the profound quality of the clay. Reflecting the artist’s fascination with masterpieces of ancient pottery, the work aims to embody a world of tranquility, while also offering an interesting contrast between stillness and motion through the sharp carving beside the foot and the visible wheel marks.
