Description
This is a new Bizen "haikaburi" (ash-covered) sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with a superb aesthetic sense who is constantly evolving in his approach to clay, firing, and craftsmanship. From the rim to the foot, the piece is fired to a crisp, resonant hardness. The thick, generously applied yellow "goma" (sesame glaze) envelops the entire piece like a heavy veil, demonstrating the exquisite charm of returning to the fundamentals of pottery—the act of firing itself. The interior features a highlight of "toro-toro" (melted/smooth) clay, and the simplicity of the form itself allows one to directly enjoy the richness of the colors.
Signed wooden box (shiho-san style)
