Description
This is a new Bizen horseback sake cup by Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige family. With reverence for the desire of our predecessors to enjoy sake even in the extraordinary setting of horseback travel, this piece has been crafted by a brilliant young Bizen artist to be relevant even today, an era where horses are no longer a common means of transport. The ratio of the body to the base is calculated at 1:1, and its sharp form suggests it could even be used to enjoy Western spirits. The earthy quality, an immutable philosophy of the Kaneshige family, is beautifully accented by flashes of scarlet (hidasuki) set against a dry, wood-like sesame glaze.
