Description
This Bizen sake cup is the work of Mashiro Aiga, an artist known for creating works that are uncompromisingly direct and possess great character. Created with the Karatsu style in mind, this piece is draped in a veil of intense natural ash glaze that holds its own against any Karatsu glaze. One wonders how this ash-covered surface, which looks as if a layer of rock has been peeled away and applied to the piece, will evolve and harmonize with sake over time. Peeking out from beneath the heavy ash is a glint of reddish-purple clay body.
