Description

This Bizen sake cup is a masterpiece by Tsuyoshi Kaneshige, a treasure of Bizen whose grandfather was a Living National Treasure and whose father was an Intangible Cultural Property holder. The work was fired by constructing a brick, tunnel-like structure within the anagama kiln, allowing charcoal embers to accumulate during the process. This method simplifies the system of the "first chamber" (the area closest to the fire) of an anagama kiln, where flames race through the sides of the T-shaped brick structure to create intense kiln-altered effects. The piece combines the gentle form characteristic of Kaneshige-sensei with a fierce firing, resulting in a work where stillness and motion coexist. Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for delivery).
Diameter 6.8cm × Diameter 6.7cm × Height 5.3cm Tsuyoshi Kaneshige was born as the second son of Intangible Cultural Property holder Michiaki Kaneshige and is the grandson of the great Living National Treasure, Toyo Kaneshige. Tsuyoshi Kaneshige graduated from the Ashiya College of Arts in 1988. After working at the Atelier Hikousen Ceramic Research Institute in 1992, he returned to Bizen. In September 1996, he exhibited at the Bizen Young Artists Exhibition, and starting in May 1999, he has been active in exhibitions such as the Kaneshige Family Exhibition.
