Description
This is a new Bizen "haikaburi" (ash-covered) sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with a superb aesthetic sense who is constantly evolving in his approach to clay, firing, and form. The overwhelming presence characteristic of his ash-covered works intertwines with a form of antithetical serenity, resulting in a completed landscape that remains cohesive despite the wealth of detail. Based in blue-gray ash, scorched sesame glaze flows dramatically toward the front, making this a piece to be enjoyed from all 360 degrees. The interior features a luxurious performance of kiln transformation, showcasing a mix of white-scorched areas, yellow sesame glaze, and blue-gray ash.
